Bridging the Instructor & Facilitator
What if asynchronous learning involved high-quality contents, presented in an engaging and evocative fashion, which then allowed for faculty presence to focus on furthering knowledge and amending knowledge gaps? Seattle Pacific University’s Center for Integrity in Business is exploring such a pedagogical approach to online instruction with their Business on Purpose series of documentary films, published study guides, community engagements and free online courses. By preparing the course materials as a series of short documentary films, learners gain knowledge but also inspiration for the transformative potential of business ethics. This allows the faculty member to use their time to encourage deep dives and congruent topics while shoring up key points, building student-expert interactions in an area that is often dominated by student-content interaction.
